Edgardo Torres, junior at William Allen High School, received a silver medal for his artwork through The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists & Writers honored the winners at a special ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City on May 31. The 88-year-old national competition is open to students in grades 7-12, who submit works for regional adjudication by a panel of artists, authors and educators based on originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal vision or voice. Torres plans to pursue a career in the visual arts following graduation.
