- Peer Mentoring Club helps at-risk freshmen succeed

Spring Grove Area SD (York Co.)

The Peer Mentoring Club at Spring Grove Area High School was featured in the April 2011 issue of Educational Leadership. The article, titled: Rallying Behind At-Risk Freshmen,” describes the efforts of the Peer Mentoring Club to mentor and support at-risk freshmen students by meeting individually with them during shared free periods. The at-risk freshmen in 2010-11 achieved success at a 79% (19/24 students) rate, with success defined as achieving the five credits necessary to reach sophomore status. This was a major increase on two years prior without interventions, when students earned success at a 42% and 38% rate.
