Northgate SD (Allegheny Co.)
This fall, Northgate High School Seniors Sarah Amick and Rachelle Mortimer and Junior Rachael Robertson entered a contest through Polar Bears International. The theme of the contest was “Bright Young Minds Outsmart CO2.” The girls put together a motivational recycling assembly with all grade levels at Bellevue Elementary, provided recycling boxes to the students, estimated their CO2 savings and blogged about the progress.
The team won the second place in the contest, which includes a trip to San Diego. While in San Diego, the team will attend an award ceremony, have a VIP tour of the San Diego Zoo and take part in a Beluga Whale encounter, swimming with the whales at Sea World San Diego.
